The Agents of Space design studio explores the performative potential of interior and spatial design to make positive contributions to the conditions and wellbeing of people, cultural practices and environments. Focused on the regional communities of Murrin Bridge and Culpra Station located in remote western districts of New South Wales, it is the aim of this design studio to understand, design and interrogate the agency of space as a relational condition in the making of architectural interventions.  Advocating participatory design methods, the Agents of Space studio investigates a range of design processes and techniques in combination with theoretical explorations about place, culture and the environment. Traveling to Murrin Bridge and Culpra Station, you will undertake field work in partnership with the Murrin Bridge Local Aboriginal Land Council (MBLALC) & The Culpra Milli Aboriginal Corporation (CMAC). Fostering cross cultural knowledge exchange, the Agents of Space design brief is centered around the adaptive reuse of a former health clinic (Murrin Bridge) and a former homestead (Culpra Station) to be retrofit for two multi propose community centers suitable for holding community events and hosting a range of service providers. The advantages of undertaking a design studio in the field, outside the traditional learning environments, is such that you are provided with an opportunity to encounter new and alternative ways of knowing through direct experience. In doing so, you will encounter previously unconsidered cultural and physical environments, in ways that foster curiosity and exploration.
