Leader: Campbell Drake
Destination: Wakatobi, Sulawesi Indonesia
This global studio is focused on strategies for sustainable tourism development in eastern Indonesia. Travelling to the Wakatobi Sulawesi, you are asked to carry out a comparative analysis between traditional architectural typologies and that of high end hotels. Within this analysis, you are asked to identify traditional and contemporary adaptations of building technologies informed by local climatic conditions, seasonal variation and natural resources. The outcome of fieldwork conducted in Sulawesi is the familiarization of sustainable strategies for tourism development and experience working in a design research capacity in remote and environmentally sensitive locations.
This studio is supported by the 2018 New Colombo Plan (NCP) Mobility round from the the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade who are providing all eligible students with a travel grant of $1500.
